How to change module access

Module settings control which parts of Properate an organization sees. Switch a module off and it disappears from the sidebar for every user in that organization — the data isn't deleted, but the module is no longer available.

Access is set at two levels: a default access for the whole organization, and any per-building overrides.

Only super administrators can change module settings. Without that role you get the message Access denied when you open the page.

How to change default access for an organization

• Click Module settings at the bottom of the sidebar.

• Find the organization in the list, using Search for organization if needed.

• Click Default access on the organization's row.

• Tick the modules the organization should have. Use Search for module if the list is long.

• To grant every module at once, click Select all. The button changes to Deselect all once everything is selected.

You get the confirmation Saved.

Note: There is no save button. Every click in the checkboxes is saved automatically a couple of seconds after you stop clicking. Leave the page before that and you get the Updating is in progress dialog telling you to wait until the update finishes.

How to override access for a single building

Default access applies to all of the organization's buildings. If one building should differ — Waste on only one of them, say — you set that per building.

• Click Module settings.

• Click the organization to expand the buildings beneath it.

• Find the building and click Access.

• Tick the modules that should apply to this building.

If a module is overridden on some buildings, the text Some buildings have custom access settings for this module appears at organization level, so you can see the default doesn't apply everywhere.

What is a module?

A module is a separately grantable part of Properate — Energy, Water, Waste, Indoor climate, Incident handling, FDV, Analysis, Calendar, Setpoints, Technical schema, Components, Virtual sensors, Cloud automations, Energy flexing, Tasks, Notes, Files, Timeseries, Room management, Organization dashboard, AI functionality and more. Each one corresponds to an entry in the sidebar.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to the data when I switch a module off?

Nothing. The data sits untouched, and it comes back as it was if the module is switched on again. Only access to see and use the module is removed.

My user still sees the module — why?

The change takes effect on the next page load. Ask them to reload the page.

Is this the same as controlling what a user is allowed to do?

No. Module settings decide which modules the organization has. What an individual user may do inside a module — view or change — is governed by their role. See How to manage users.

Why can't I find an organization in the list?

The search matches organization names and building names. If the name gives no hits, try the name of one of its buildings.

Tip!

Set default access at organization level first, and use per-building overrides only where they're genuinely needed. Overrides are easy to forget and don't show up in the sidebar — the only trace is the note saying some buildings have custom settings.
