Waste

The waste module tracks how much waste a building produces and how well it is sorted. Unlike energy and water, most waste data arrives from waste-handling companies rather than from sensors — which shapes how you should read it.

The overview

Select a period to see waste by fraction, with name, date and weight in kilograms. Two figures summarise quality:

• Sorting degree — how much of the total was sorted rather than going to residual waste.

• Number of fractions — how many distinct waste types were separated.

Where the limit values come from

Waste values are used as limit values when assessing waste parameters. The limits come from the waste guide "Waste in operation" from Grønn Byggallianse, and from BREEAM-NOR v6, Wst 03 method (M1), which requires at least 6 different fractions. So the number-of-fractions figure is not arbitrary — it maps to a certification requirement.

Registering waste manually

Where automatic delivery is missing, use Register waste and select the waste code. This is what keeps the data basis complete for buildings whose waste handler does not report electronically, and it means sorting degree stays comparable across your portfolio.

Incomplete periods

If Properate reports that waste data is incomplete for a period, it usually is not an error. Many waste companies submit data for one month during the following month, so the current month is routinely incomplete. Wait for the next reporting cycle before drawing conclusions, particularly about sorting degree, which is easily distorted by a partially-reported month.
