How to choose period and resolution in the energy view
Two choices decide what the energy graph shows: the period — the stretch of time you're looking at — and the resolution — how fine-grained the points are. They work together, and the wrong combination is the most common reason a graph becomes unreadable.
How to select the period
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Energy > Energy consumption in the sidebar.
- Click the date picker at the top.
- Pick a ready-made period from the list, or set the start and end date yourself in the calendar.
The ready-made periods cover what you need most often:
Short | Medium | Long |
|---|---|---|
Last hour | Last week | Last 3 months |
Last 3 hours | Last 2 weeks | Last 6 months |
Last 6 hours | Last 30 days | Last 365 days |
Last 12 hours | Previous month | Years, for example 2025 |
Last 24 hours | Quarters, for example Q2 2025 | |
Today / Yesterday |
How to select the resolution
Choose from the dropdown next to the date picker:
- Per hour — to work out what happened on a single day
- Per day — to see the pattern across a month
- Per week — to see development over a quarter
- Per month — to see the year
Note: The date picker changes with the resolution. Choose Per month and you pick months in the calendar instead of dates; choose Per week and you pick weeks. So switch resolution before setting the period, and you won't have to pick twice.
How to choose the combination
The aim is a graph with enough points to show a pattern, but not so many that it disappears:
Period | Resolution |
|---|---|
A year | Per month or Per week |
A quarter | Per week or Per day |
A month | Per day |
A week | Per day or Per hour |
A day | Per hour |
Frequently asked questions
Can I share a link to a period I've set up?
Yes. Period and resolution live in the page's address, so a colleague with access to the building sees exactly the same graph when you send them the link.
Is the period kept when I switch building?
Yes. Switch buildings from the energy view and the period and resolution come with you to the new building.
Is the period kept when I switch between Energy consumption and Energy comparison?
Yes, the main period carries over. Energy comparison then adds a choice of which period you're comparing against.
Why does the graph stop before the period ends?
There are no meter readings any further ahead. If you choose a period stretching into the future, only what has actually been measured is drawn.
Tip!
Use Previous month rather than setting the dates yourself when doing monthly follow-up. The ready-made period always covers the whole month, whereas manual dates easily end up a day short or long — and then the figures aren't comparable from month to month.
