How to create a waste report
A waste report collects the waste figures for a period into a document you can pass on — for environmental reporting, BREEAM documentation, or an owner who needs the annual numbers.
How to create a waste report
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Waste in the sidebar.
- Select the period the report should cover.
- Click Create waste report.
The report is queued and generated, and you'll find it under Reports. See How to download a report.
Note: Create waste report is greyed out if there's no waste data in the period you selected. The button's tooltip says so: No waste data for {from} - {to}. Change the period, or record the waste first.
Check this before creating the report
The report reproduces what has been registered. If the basis is incomplete, so is the report — with nothing in the document to say so.
- Look for the missing data warning. If the waste page shows a Data accuracy warning, months are missing from the period.
- Wait for the most recent month. Many waste companies submit a month's data during the following month. Produce the annual report on 2 January and December is almost certainly missing.
- Check the Source column. If the building has both an integration and manual entries, look for double counting.
- Check the fractions are on the right codes. Sorting degree and number of fractions are calculated from the codes.
What the report is used for
The two key figures are Sorting degree and the number of fractions. The limit values Properate assesses against are taken from the waste guide "Waste in operation" from Grønn Byggallianse and from BREEAM-NOR v6, Wst 03 method (M1), which requires "At least 6 different fractions". You'll find the limit values under Table of limit values in the help on the waste page.
Frequently asked questions
Which period should the report cover?
Follow the reporting period you have to submit to — usually the calendar year. To document an improvement, produce one report per year and compare them.
Can I produce the report again if data arrives later?
Yes. Create a new report for the same period once the figures are complete. The previous one isn't updated on its own.
Do I get the report by email?
No, it sits under Reports until you download it.
Why is the sorting degree lower in the report than I expected?
Usually because a month is missing, or because a fraction has been recorded against a mixed-waste code. Both drag the sorting degree down.
Tip!
Produce the report in early February for the preceding year, not in January. By then the waste companies have had time to submit December's figures, and you avoid producing the report twice.
