How to enter your phone number for SMS alerts

Properate sends SMS alerts to the number on your profile. If the field is empty you get no SMS — not even if you're a member of an alert group that is due to be notified.

How to enter your phone number

• Click User settings at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Profile.

• Type the number into the field under Phone number. Use the format with a country code, for example +47 123 45 678.

• Click Save.

You get the confirmation Phone number saved.

Note: The number has to include a country code. If the format is invalid, the message says Enter a valid phone number. and the number isn't saved.

How to switch on email notifications about building performance

The same page holds Notifications, where you choose whether Properate emails you when it finds something in your buildings.

• Go to Profile.

• Switch on Building performance updates. You then get notifications about unusual energy use and opportunities to improve building performance.

• Select the buildings you want notifications for. Use the search field, or Select all.

The number of selected buildings is shown as {n} of {m} selected.

What's the difference between this and alert groups?

Two different things, and they're easy to confuse:

• Your profile holds your contact details — which number and which email address Properate reaches you on, and whether you want building performance updates.

• Alert groups and alert configurations decide whether and when you are notified about alarms in a building.

You have to be in a group to be notified about alarms, and you have to have a phone number registered for that notification to arrive as an SMS. See How to create an alert group.

Frequently asked questions

I'm in an alert group but I don't get any SMS. Why?

The most common cause is a missing phone number on your profile. Check that first. If the number is there, check that the alert configuration has a group rule covering that time — and that it isn't set to Mute.

Can I get notifications by email instead of SMS?

The email notifications for Building performance updates are yours to control here. Alarm notifications are sent based on the alert configuration, not on your profile.

Who can see my phone number?

The number is used to notify you. It doesn't appear in the building's contact lists — contacts are registered separately under the building's settings.

Tip!

Enter your phone number before joining an alert group, not after. A missing number produces no error message when the alarm fires; the notification simply isn't sent.
