How to set up indoor climate control
Indoor climate control defines what counts as acceptable indoor climate: threshold values per room type, per month and per condition. The page description puts it precisely: Configure monthly indoor climate thresholds per room type for each building.
Where the indoor climate table shows what is measured, the rules here say what is good enough.
How to open indoor climate control
Click Indoor climate table at the bottom of the sidebar at portfolio level. The page is called Indoor climate control.
If you have no rules yet, it says No indoor climate rules found with Create a rule to automatically manage indoor climate behavior.
How to create a rule
- Click Add rule.
- Choose the Room type — Select room type.
- Choose the Sensor — Select sensor, that is, which measurement the rule covers.
- Choose the Condition — Select condition, see below.
- Set Min and Max.
- Set the Priority.
- Click Create rule, then Save.
You get Rules saved. If it fails: Couldn't save the rules. Try again.
Remove a rule with Delete rule.
The conditions
A rule doesn't necessarily apply all the time. Condition is grouped in two:

This is what makes the rules usable in practice. An office should hold 21 degrees during operating hours but not overnight; a comfort limit in summer differs from one in winter. With Always alone you'd have to pick one value for every situation.
Note: Inside operational hours and Outside operational hours rest on the building's registered opening hours. If those haven't been entered, Properate can't tell the difference — and the rules won't behave as you expect. See How to register opening hours for a building.
Priority
Several rules can apply to the same room at once — one for Always and one for During summer, for example. Priority decides which wins.
Put the general rule lowest and the exceptions higher, so the seasonal rule overrides the year-round one rather than the other way around.
The levels
Rules can be set across several buildings. Go to rule scope takes you to the level a rule is set at, in the same way as for emission factors — see How to override emission factors.
Frequently asked questions
Do the rules control the installation?
No. The rules define what's acceptable, not what the installation should do. If something needs controlling, that belongs in the calendar or in a cloud automation — see How to create a cloud automation.
Do the rules notify me?
To be notified when a limit is crossed, create an alarm of type Max/min room temperature exceeds threshold, CO2 level exceeds threshold or VOC level exceeds threshold — see How to choose the right alarm type.
Why doesn't the rule reach my rooms?
Check the Room type on the rooms. A rule for a room type no room has applies to nothing — see How to edit room information.
The rules won't load?
Couldn't load indoor climate rules. — use Retry.
Tip!
Set the room types on the rooms before creating the rules, not afterwards. The rules hang off the room type, so a building where half the rooms have no type gets half an indoor climate assessment — with nothing to announce it.
