How to set up a group calendar
A group calendar controls several calendars at once. If you have twelve ventilation units that should share the same operating hours, you put their calendars in a group and edit once instead of twelve times.
How to create a group calendar
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Calendar in the sidebar.
- Open Group calendar and choose Add.
- Fill in the Group name — at least three characters, and it has to be unique.
- Choose the calendars under Select calendars — at least two.
- Click Save.
The selection appears as You have selected {n} new calendars, and the chosen ones are listed under Selected in group with their Calendar names.
The requirements you have to meet
Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
Enter a group name with at least three characters. | the name is too short |
This group name is already in use. Enter a unique name. | the name already exists |
Select at least two calendars for the group. | one calendar isn't a group |
This calendar does not have a defined value set. | the calendar has no valid values |
There are no other calendars to group with. | no candidates in the same area |
Note: Calendars have to share the same value set to be grouped. If they don't match, the message says Couldn't create group from selected calendars. Define valid values on the calendars first — see How to add an event to the calendar.
What happens to the members
Once a calendar is in a group, its value set is locked: This calendar is a member of the group "{name}". Editing of the value set is locked. The message also gives you the way out — Remove the calendar from group to edit the value set.
On the calendar it says This is a member in the group "{name}", and the group shows Controls calendars with Last updated.
That locking is exactly what makes the group worth having: every member is guaranteed the same value set, and an event added on the group applies to all of them.
How to change the member list
- Open the group and choose Edit existing.
- Add calendars with Select calendars, or remove them with Remove — the tooltip is Delete calendar from group.
- Click Update.
If there are no more to choose from, it says No calendars can be selected for this group. If the group is empty, it says No selected calendars in this group.
If it fails: Couldn't save group. Try again. or Couldn't load calendar groups. Try again.
How to see the members in the calendar list
Use Show members — the tooltip is Show all group members in the calendar list. Hide group members takes them away again.
With many groups the list is shorter with members hidden; when troubleshooting which calendar controls what, show them.
How to delete a group
Use Delete group and confirm Delete group? The explanation says what happens: Delete this calendar group and all its events? Calendars in the group remain as individual calendars.
Note: The events go, the calendars stay. After deletion the members are left as individual calendars without the control the group provided — so they run on their default value until somebody adds events again.
If it fails: Couldn't delete group. Try again.
Frequently asked questions
Can a calendar belong to several groups?
A calendar shows the group it's a member of, and its value set is locked by that group. To have it controlled by something else, remove it from the group first.
Does a fault on one member affect the others?
The error message shows the scope: , and {n} calendars with the same error — so you can see whether the problem is one installation or the whole group.
Where do I add events for the group?
On the group calendar. The event then applies to every member.
Tip!
Group by operating pattern, not by installation type. Twelve ventilation units with different usage hours don't belong in the same group, while a ventilation unit and a heating circuit following the same opening hours do. It's the time control that's shared, not the technology.
