How to filter and sort tables

Tables in Properate work the same way everywhere — in the component list, the timeseries list, the incident list, the file archive and the KPI table.

Tables in Properate work the same way everywhere — in the component list, the timeseries list, the incident list, the file archive and the KPI table. Learn the tools once and you know them across the whole product.

Sorting

Click a column header to sort by it. Click again to reverse the order.

Columns

Open Columns or Settings to control what you see:

Option

What it does

Column visibility

show or hide individual columns

Toggle column visibility

switch one column on or off

Pin column left

keeps the column visible as you scroll sideways

Pin column right

the same, at the right edge

Unpin column

releases a pinned column

Show vertical lines

vertical rules between columns

Wrap all content

long values wrap onto several lines

Note: Pin column left on the name column is the single most useful move in a wide table. Without pinning you lose the row's name the moment you scroll across to the column you actually wanted to read.

Filters

Click Filter to add one. Each filter is a column, an operator and a value:

Operator

Meaning

Is / Is not

exact match

Starts with / Does not start with

text beginning

Is any of / Is not any of

match among several chosen values

Is all of / Is not all of

requires every chosen value

Is empty / Is not empty

empty fields

Greater than, Less than, Greater than or equal to, Less than or equal to

numeric comparison

Several filters can be combined with And or Or. Remove filter drops one; Clear filters removes them all. Hide empty hides rows with no value.

Is empty is often the most useful filter of the lot: it's how you find components with no delivery date, timeseries with no label, or files with no system.

Rows and pages

  • Rows per page controls the page size, and Page {n} of {n} shows where you are.
  • Select row and Select all rows mark rows for an action. The selection shows as {n} selected and Rows selected: {n} of {n}.
  • Expand row and Collapse row open details where the table has them.

When the table shows fewer rows than you expect

The message Showing the first {n} results. Refine your search or apply filters to see more. means the table has capped itself — not that no more rows exist.

Note: This is worth reading carefully. Sort a capped table and you're only sorting the rows that were fetched — not the whole dataset. Filter first, sort afterwards, or "highest value" may be the highest among the first hundred rather than in the building.

The same applies to dropdowns with many options: Showing the first results. Search to see more.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say "No results"?

The filters exclude everything. Use Clear filters to start over.

Are my filters kept?

In several tables, filters and sorting live in the page's address, so the link can be shared and gives the same view. Don't count on the setup persisting the next time you open the page, though.

Why is a column empty for so many rows?

The field isn't registered on those rows. Filter on Is empty to see how many — it's the quickest way to measure how complete a register is.

Can I export what I'm looking at?

That depends on the page. Energy, water, analysis and the organization dashboard have their own exports — see How to see analysis data as a table.

Tip!

Use Is empty as a quality tool, not just a search tool. Filter the component list on an empty Delivery date, the file archive on empty Labels and the timeseries list on empty Labels — in minutes you have a list of what's missing from the register, instead of a feeling that "something is incomplete".
