How to create a component
A component in Properate is a physical part of a technical installation — a fan, a heating coil, a pump. The component register is where you collect what you need to know about the part: where it sits, who supplied it, when it was delivered and when it is nearing end of life. Documentation and tasks can be attached directly to the component.
How to create a component
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to FDV > Components in the sidebar.
- Click the plus button in the top right to open New component.
- Select Building. The field is required, and this is where you pick the sub-building or zone the component sits in.
- Select System. This field is required too, and it ties the component to the technical installation it belongs to.
- Select Component type, for example Fan or Electric heating coil.
- Fill in the remaining fields as far as you have the information:
- Serial number and Component number — the component's identification
- Product/type designation — the supplier's designation
- Component name — for example "Supply air fan"
- Room and Alternative location — where the component sits
- Contractor, Supplier and Manufacturer
- Delivery date and Other information
- Click Save.
You get the confirmation Changes saved, and the component now appears in the component list.
Note: You have to save the component before you can upload files to it. Try to upload first and you get the message Save the component before uploading files.
Note: Don't fill in End of life or Return date on a component that is in service. The component list hides components with either date set — they count as out of use. See the section below.
How to attach documentation to the component
- Open the component from the list.
- Scroll down to Files.
- Upload datasheets, FDV documentation or photos.
See How to attach files to a component.
How to create a task on the component
If the component needs checking or replacing, you can create the task straight from it:
- Open the component.
- Click Add task.
The task is tied to the component, so its history follows the part. See How to attach a task to a component.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I save?
Check that Building and System are filled in — both are required. If they aren't, the messages Select building and Select system tell you which field is empty.
Can I discard a component I've started on?
Yes. Click Cancel and confirm Discard changes?. If the component has already been saved once, the button is called Delete instead.
How do I find a component again in a long list?
Use the search field on the components page, filter by Building, System or Component type, or sort by clicking a column header. To search for an exact phrase, put asterisks around the search text.
The component I created has disappeared from the list — where did it go?
Check whether it has been given an End of life or Return date. The component list only shows components in use, so a date in either field hides the component. Switch on the filter that shows returned components to bring it back.
Tip!
Set End of life when the component has actually been replaced, not when you plan to replace it. If the date is more than six months old, Properate marks the component with a warning icon showing End of life and the date — a useful signal that the register has fallen behind reality.
