How to import a schema
If you have system diagrams from another system — from the building automation or a previous supplier — they can be imported rather than redrawn.
How to import a schema
- Go to Technical schema in the sidebar.
- Choose the building or zone in Select a building/zone.
- Click Import schema.
- Select the file and complete the import.
If the import fails, the message says Couldn't create the schemas. Try again.
After importing: attach the timeseries
An imported schema has the drawing and the pins, but the pins have to point at your timeseries in Properate to show live values.
Use Diagnostics to work through whatever wasn't mapped automatically. There you choose:
- Timeseries — which measurement each pin should read from, using Select timeseries
- Rooms — using Select floor… and Select room…
- Links
Use Skip for elements that shouldn't come along.
Once the mappings are in place, the confirmation says Imported timeseries updated. If it fails: Couldn't update the imported timeseries. Try again.
Note: An imported schema with no attached timeseries looks complete — the drawing and pins are there — but the pins show no values. Work through Diagnostics before marking the schema as ready, or you'll deliver a system diagram with no data in it.
Import or copy?
Two different situations:

Copying is almost always simpler when the starting point is already in Properate, since the system mapping is done with Current system against New system. See How to create a technical schema.
Frequently asked questions
Do the pins come with the import?
Their positions do. Attaching them to your timeseries is what you set up afterwards in Diagnostics.
Should I import in draft mode?
Yes. Use Convert to draft before starting, so customers don't see a half-finished schema while you're attaching timeseries. Mark as ready when it's done.
Can I import to several buildings at once?
The import applies to the building or zone you've selected. To use the same schema in several places, import once and copy onwards.
What if some pins have no matching timeseries?
Use Skip on those. A pin without a timeseries is better removed than left showing no value.
Tip!
Work through Diagnostics all the way to the end, including the pins you're unsure about. An element you skip is absent from the schema and easy to notice; an element attached to the wrong timeseries shows a value that looks right — and that's the error nobody finds.
