How to see the building's energy flow
Energy flow shows where the building's energy ends up. The diagram is a flow diagram: the width of each band matches the amount of energy, so you see at a glance which parts of the building take most of it.
Where Energy consumption shows use over time, Energy flow shows the distribution within one chosen period.
How to open the energy flow
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Energy > Energy flow in the sidebar.
- Select the period in the date picker at the top.
The diagram is drawn for the period you choose. If the building is split between Owner and Tenant, the two are separated in the diagram.
How to switch between consumption and source
Two buttons at the top control what the flow is broken down by:
- Consumption — where in the building the energy is used
- Source — which energy source it comes from

How to switch between kilowatt-hours and percent
Click Show in % to see the shares as percentages instead of kilowatt-hours. The button then changes to Show in kWh, which takes you back.
Percent is useful when you want to understand the distribution; kilowatt-hours when you need to use the figures elsewhere.
Note: The period, the display mode and the choice between Consumption and Source all live in the page's address. A link you copy therefore shows exactly the same thing to a colleague with access to the building.
What does the band width tell you?
The width of a band is the amount of energy going that way in the period you've chosen. A wide band into one part of the building means that part accounts for a large share of consumption. That makes the flow diagram good for working out where measures are worth taking — it points at the big items before you start digging into details.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't the parts add up to the main meter?
Not all consumption is necessarily covered by sub-meters. The difference is the consumption not measured separately, and some difference is normal.
Can I see development over time here?
No, the flow diagram shows one period. For development over time, use Energy consumption — see How to read a building's energy use.
Why is the diagram empty?
The building has no sub-meters to distribute consumption across, or there are no meter readings in the period you selected.
Tip!
Choose a period of at least a month. Across a few days the distribution is quickly dominated by chance — one cold weekend can give heating an unreasonably large share.
