How to register opening hours for a building
Opening hours tell Properate when the building is in use. It's an administrative detail with practical consequences: the operational shading in the graphs, the filters in the XY graph and the Operative column in the tables all rest on it.
How to register opening hours
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Settings in the sidebar.
- Find Opening hours.
- Click Add operational hours.
- Set the days and the time span.
- Tick Closed on holidays if the building is closed then.
To remove an entry, use Delete operational hours.

Note: Without registered opening hours, Properate can't tell operation from non-operation anywhere. The graphs lose their shading, the Operative column stays empty, and the XY graph's Out of operation filter has nothing to filter on — see How to create an XY graph.
Why it's worth getting right
The distinction between operation and non-operation is where most findings sit:
- Water use outside operation is nearly always a leak. See How to read a building's water consumption.
- Energy use outside operation points at installations running when they don't need to.
- The XY graph only becomes readable once weekends and holidays are filtered out.
Set the opening hours too wide — 07–23 on a building actually used 08–17, say — and those findings disappear, because the consumption counts as normal operation.
Holidays
Closed on holidays ties the building to the holiday calendar. Holidays then count as non-operation without you entering each date.

Frequently asked questions
Can different days have different hours?
Yes. Add one entry per pattern — weekdays 08–17 and Saturday 10–15, for example.
Do the opening hours control the installation?
No. Opening hours are a statement about use, not a control. If the ventilation should follow the opening hours, that's set up in the calendar — see How to add an event to the calendar.
What about buildings in use around the clock?
Then the whole day is operation, and the distinction carries less information. Care homes and data centres therefore get little out of the operational shading.
Who can change them?
Anyone with write access to the building.
Tip!
Register the actual use, not the formal opening hours in the lease. The point of the detail is to separate hours where consumption is expected from hours where it isn't — and a building that empties at 17 yields better findings with 08–17 than with the lease's 07–21.
