How to create a floor plan
A floor plan shows sensors and key figures placed where they actually are in the building. Where a technical schema shows how an installation is connected, the floor plan shows where things are — and that difference is what makes the floor plan useful when the question concerns a room or a floor.
How to create a floor plan
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Floor plan in the sidebar.
- Click New floor plan.
- Choose the Building in Select building.
- Upload the Floor plan image — see the section below on file format.
- Click Show edit mode and place the pins.
- Click Save.
Use Edit floor plan name to name it, and Exit edit mode when you're finished.
The file format has to be SVG
The background image has to be an SVG file. Upload anything else and the message says Upload an SVG file.
If the upload fails it says Couldn't upload {fileName}, and if the image can't be shown: Couldn't load image. While it runs it says Uploading {fileName}, and when it's done: {fileName} uploaded.
Note: SVG is a vector format. If you have the floor plan as a PDF or an image from the architect, it has to be converted to SVG first — a screenshot won't do. This is the most common obstacle when setting up a floor plan for the first time.
Alternatively you can use Add Properate design as a starting point rather than your own drawing.
How to place pins
In edit mode you add:

If every room is already placed, the message says All rooms are pinned to the floor plan.
Use Preview to see the floor plan as others see it, before saving.
How to configure a pin
Open Settings on the pin to set:
- Name and Unit
- Min value and Max value — the limits that decide its colour
- Priority
The pin flags visually when the value goes outside them:
- Value exceeds the maximum configured for this pin.
- Value is below the minimum configured for this pin.
- Value matches a monitored state for this pin.
- Out of service

Frequently asked questions
What if the draft is empty?
The message The draft is empty. means you haven't placed anything yet. The selected timeseries list is empty. means no timeseries have been selected.
Can I see the change history?
Yes. The floor plan logs events like Floor plan created, Background changed, Added KPI {name} and pin deletions.
What does the older-version warning mean?
This floor plan is from an older version. Save to update it to the latest version. Save it, or use Revert if you want to keep it as it was.
Can I link the floor plan to the system image?
Yes — the table has columns for both Plan drawing and System image, so a building can have both and they can be shown together.
Tip!
Get the SVG file from the architect or whoever holds the drawing set before you start. The whole setup hinges on the file format, and it's quicker to ask for the right file once than to try converting a PDF full of text and dimensions.
