How to create a timeseries analysis

A timeseries analysis is a graph where you choose which measurements to show together.

A timeseries analysis is a graph where you choose which measurements to show together. It's the tool you reach for when you want to see whether two things are related — whether the supply air temperature follows the setpoint, say, or whether energy use rises as the outdoor temperature falls.

The analysis is saved in the building, so you can come back to it later and share it with others.

How to create a timeseries analysis

  • Go to Analysis > Timeseries graph in the sidebar.
  • Click New in the top right.

The analysis is created straight away and you land in it. It is empty and called Unnamed until you give it a name.

  • Click Timeseries to open Timeseries Selection.
  • Find the measurement you want and select it.
  • Repeat for every measurement you want to compare.
  • Select the period you want to look at in the date picker.
  • Click the pencil icon next to the title to Edit name, and give the analysis a name you'll recognize.
Note: The New button creates the analysis immediately — there is no dialog asking you to name it first. If you click New and then navigate away, an empty analysis called Unnamed is left behind in the list.

How to keep the graph readable

If your measurements have different units, the graph quickly becomes unreadable. The Group switch controls this: when grouping is enabled, timeseries with the same unit share the same axis. Temperatures end up on one axis and kilowatt-hours on another, instead of everything being squeezed onto one scale.

How to see statistics for a measurement

If you want the figures behind the graph — minimum, maximum, average — open the statistics for the individual timeseries from the timeseries list below the graph.

How to share the analysis

  • Click Share in the analysis.
  • Copy the link from Share analysis.

Whoever you send the link to is asked Import … to your analyses? and gets the analysis into their own building. See How to share an analysis and How to import a shared analysis.

Note: The import is a one-time copy. If you change the analysis afterwards, the changes don't follow through to whoever imported it — they need to ask for a new link and import it again.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a timeseries analysis and an XY graph?

A timeseries analysis has time along the X axis and shows development over time. An XY graph plots two measurements against each other, with no time involved, and is used to see whether there's a relationship between them. See How to create an XY graph.

Can I delete an analysis I don't need?

Yes. Use Delete analysis in the list and confirm.

Why does it say "Import a timeseries to get started"?

Then the analysis is empty. Click Timeseries and select at least one measurement.

Are my analyses visible to my colleagues?

Analyses live in the building, so anyone else with access to the same building finds them in the analysis list. Imported analyses are marked Imported.

Tip!

Name the analysis right away. A list with several entries called Unnamed is hard to tidy up afterwards, since the name is the only thing distinguishing them in the overview.
