How to see the split between energy sources
The source view in Energy flow splits consumption by where the energy comes from — electricity, district heating, solar production and any other sources the building is connected to. It's the view you use when the question is what the energy is, not where in the building it's used.
How to open the source split
- Open the building you want to work on. See How to switch building and search for a building.
- Go to Energy > Energy flow in the sidebar.
- Click Source among the buttons at the top.
- Select the period in the date picker.
Click Consumption to go back to the split by where in the building the energy is used.
How to see the shares as percentages
Click Show in %. The button changes to Show in kWh, which takes you back to kilowatt-hours.
For a source split, percent is usually the more readable of the two: it's the share of electricity against district heating you're after, not the absolute figure.
What the source split is used for
The source split is the starting point for two things:
- Emissions. Different energy sources have different emission factors, so the split between them determines the building's climate accounting — not just how many kilowatt-hours are used. See How to override emission factors.
- Cost. Electricity and district heating are priced differently and fluctuate differently through the year.
Two buildings with identical consumption can therefore come out very differently, depending on which sources they use.
Note: The sources shown are the ones the building is actually connected to in Properate. If a source you know exists is missing, it's the integration or the meter registration that isn't in place — not the view itself.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I only see one source?
The building has only one registered energy source — usually electricity. Buildings with district heating, solar panels or several sources show several bands.
Is solar production shown here?
Yes, provided the solar installation is connected to Properate as an energy source.
Is this the same as the Energy sources tab under Selected meter?
They're related but used differently. The Energy sources tab chooses which source the graph in Energy consumption shows over time. The source view here shows the whole split between sources within one period.
Tip!
Compare the source split for the same period last year and this year before concluding that emissions have fallen. A drop in emissions can come from reduced consumption — but equally from nothing more than the split between sources having shifted.
